Thinking of storing your camper trailer or caravan for a while? Before you do, take time out to prepare it properly first, that way you’ll avoid any nasty surprises down the track. Here are some handy hints for preparing your camper trailer or van for storage:
- Clean everything properly including the toilet, fridge, basins, cabinets. Wipe everything down to make sure there are no food crumbs, spills or scraps to attract pests. Leave the fridge door slightly open to avoid any mould forming.
- Disconnect all your electrical appliances then disconnect the battery to save power. You should also close gas bottles and burn off excess gas in the lines. And don’t forget to protect your cylinder from sunlight by covering it with a cloth or towel while not in use.
- Open a vent or window to ensure sufficient ventilation to prevent mould from forming. It’s a good idea to place containers of silica gel inside the trailer to prevent moisture.
- Check for any holes or cracks and fill them up using brass or aluminium wool or foam for larger holes.
- Cover your camper trailer with a light coloured plastic cover and keep somewhere in the shade or undercover if possible.
If you prepare your camper well, it will be ready to roll whenever you are.
