Our Favourite Cold-Weather Hacks for the Road

Just because the mercury drops doesn’t mean your adventures have to!

Winter camping can be magic… quiet campsites, starry skies, and the kind of chill that makes a morning coffee feel even more rewarding. If you’re setting off in your Nomadic off-road camper or Hardkorr camper, here are a few of our go-to winter camping tips to help you stay toasty, caffeinated, and comfortable.

1. Start With the Coffee (Obviously)

If there’s one thing that makes winter mornings on the road pure bliss, it’s a proper coffee setup. For those plugged into power or running an inverter, the Nespresso Citiz & Milk Capsule Coffee Machine is an absolute win, being lightweight, slim, and makes a damn good brew.

Off-grid? The Bellman coffee maker has you sorted. It’s compact and delivers a satisfying espresso hit without needing mains power (just make sure the seals are on properly!)

Weight matters when you’re towing or hauling, and both of these options hit the sweet spot between function and weight.

2. Diesel Heater = Game Changer

Running a diesel heater it for just 10–15 minutes before bed and again in the morning takes the edge off the chill and makes a huge difference in comfort. Give our team a call or send an enquiry to discuss your options. “We didn’t realise how much we needed a diesel heater until we got one” is a phrase we often hear from happy customers.

3. Heated Blankets, But Make It 12V

Call it a luxury if you want, but a few of our team have these KickAss 12V Electric/Heated Blankets and all agree, they are hands down one of the best additions to our winter setup. It heats up the bed beautifully before climbing in, and we’ve even plugged it in outside while sitting under the awning, perfect for early morning coffees or late-night chats.

4. Yeti for the Win

We’re big fans of the Yeti range. Not just because they keep your drinks ice cold, but because they also hold warmth impressively well. Whether it’s tea, coffee, hot choc or a sneaky mulled wine, your drink will stay warmer for longer, keeping you warm inside while you take in those frosty views.

Thinking of Upgrading for Winter?

Whether you’re after a better cold-weather setup, looking to enquire about installing a diesel heater, or just want to make sure your rig’s in good nick before heading off, the team at Patto’s RV Centre can help with servicing your caravan and RV before you set off. We are always keen to hear your tips too!
