Women camping and caravanning: celebrating women getting outdoors their way

International Women’s Day 2026 centres on the Give To Gain campaign, a powerful reminder that generosity, support and shared knowledge don’t reduce opportunity, they multiply it. When women are encouraged, equipped and connected, everyone benefits.

We see that shift happening every day at Patto’s.

More women are walking through our doors, asking questions, learning how their vans work, understanding their setups and building the confidence to head off on their own adventures. And it’s not just about the destination. It’s about capability. Independence. Backing themselves.

Whether it’s camping, caravanning, hiking or fishing, many are doing it alongside other women too, joining groups, travelling together and creating communities that make the outdoors feel welcoming, social and far less intimidating.

That’s Give To Gain in action.

When knowledge is shared and confidence is built, adventure becomes something everyone can access.

Women camping and caravanning groups building confidence

Across Victoria, women-led camping and caravanning groups are popping up everywhere, and they’re doing a ripper job of bringing people together. Communities like Rolling Solo, plus Facebook groups such as ‘Women Caravanning, Camping and Travelling Solo Australia’ and ‘VIC Ladies Camping Meet Ups’, give women a place to swap tips, share plans and link up for trips, whether they’re brand new or have been doing this for years.

It’s what makes women camping and caravanning feel a lot more approachable. You can learn as you go, pick up handy advice on setups and destinations, and travel in a way that suits you. And whether you’re towing a camper trailer, rolling in with a caravan or heading off in a tent, doing it with a crew can build confidence fast and make the whole trip more enjoyable.

Walking and hiking groups for women exploring together

Not every outdoor adventure needs wheels. Sometimes it’s as simple as chucking on your runners, grabbing a mate and hitting the track. Walking and hiking groups are a great way for women to get outside, explore new spots and enjoy a bit of fresh air with good company.

Groups like Women of Wander along the Great Ocean Road (think multi-day hiking and canoe trips), Girls With Altitude for women between 20 and 30, and the Melbourne Women’s Walking Club (going strong for over 100 years) show just how good these communities can be. It’s low-pressure, you can go at your own pace, and it doesn’t matter if you’re a regular hiker or just starting out. Just turn up, have a chat, and let the trail do the rest.

Fishing groups changing the face of time on the water

Fishing’s another one that’s really taking off with women, and it’s great to see. In Victoria, programs like the Women in Recreational Fishing and Boating Network have brought thousands of women together through skill-sharing, social fishing sessions and events.

And for plenty of them, it’s not about chasing the biggest catch. It’s about having a go, picking up tips as you go, and not feeling like you’ve got to know everything from day one. Add some laughs, a bit of fresh air and good company on the water, and that’s what it’s really about.

Why are women getting into camping and caravanning?

At the heart of it, women are getting into camping and caravanning because it offers freedom. These groups provide a sense of belonging, a safe space to learn without judgment, and the reassurance that comes from travelling with others.

It’s about sharing skills, supporting each other, feeling safe in numbers and, most importantly, enjoying the outdoors in a way that feels right for you.

Supporting women on their outdoor journey

Whether women travel solo, with friends or as part of a group, having the right setup and advice can make all the difference. At Patto’s, we’re proud to support women camping and caravanning at every stage of the journey, from those first questions right through to servicing, upgrades and ongoing guidance.

If you’re curious, planning your next trip or just want to chat through your options, our team is always happy to help. Sometimes all it takes is a little support to turn an idea into your next great adventure.
